Happy 50th Pat!

We have a lot to celebrate today!  It's Pat's big 50 birthday!  And I'm here to say...he's 50 and fabulous!  Love him and feel so blessed to have him as my husband.  We'll be celebrating his birthday with friends and family over Easter weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone and toasting my amazing husband!  Happy 50th and here's to many, many more birthday celebrations together!

Oh course, Pat loves a good beer...so I thought that would be perfect for his card.  Love how this turned out...and so fun to combine stamps from three different stamp companies. I followed along with the CAS(e) this Sketch challenge for his card.

Thanks Ever So Much

Happy Wednesday friends.  I love the sketch over at CAS(E) this Sketch.  I had the thanks die sitting on my desk and used that in contrast with a black strip of paper for the card.  The floral stamps are from Verve.  My mum asked me to make a few thank yous for her so this along with most of my cards I am posting this week will be a set for her use.
I also thought I'd share a few pictures of what Pat has been up to over the last couple of weeks.  His sister turns 50 in a couple of weeks and her made these chairs for her.  They turned out beautifully. He planned on taking them up to Chicago this past weekend, but our mini van decided it wasn't going to make the trip. Fortunately the engine light came on when Pat was less than 10 minutes away on his way to pick up his brothers for the trip to Chicago.  We'll have to figure out another way to get them there soon!

Happy 21st Anniversary Pat!

Today, Pat and I are celebrating our 21st anniversary.  This past weekend, we were talking about what was going on this coming week:  me traveling for work, schedule pick up for school, show choir rehearsals, Pat's uncle visiting this weekend, etc.  I said and it's our anniversary...we're not doing anything :)!  He laughed and thanked me for the reminder.  We will do something in a couple of weeks when we have a bit more time. Life is great and I love him completely.   Happy anniversary to the most amazing husband I could ever imagine.

A few more pictures from our visit with nana. We took her out to lunch at her favorite Thai restaurant.  She hasn't been there in over a year so she was thrilled to go.  I love this picture with my mum, nana and Marcel.
And here's Pat misbehaving :).  I think he had just stolen Elizabeth's mint from her!  She had unwrapped it (even licked it) and Pat snatched it out of her hands.

Here we all are (except Pat who took the picture)...four generations!

After lunch, Nana went home to sleep for a bit and we caught a game of polo!

And a last picture before we left for my cousin's house.

Happy Birthday Patrick!

{Pat with his brothers:  Mike, Pat, Sean and Tim...sharing a beer on Easter weekend.}

Hello there!  I'm popping in to wish my hubby a happy, happy birthday!  We're in Nashville for the show choir nationals competition so we'll have a fun time celebrating his birthday with friends tonight!

For Pat's card, I was inspired by Laurie's Muse card below.  I pulled out some of my favorite stamps that haven't seen ink in way too long (PaperTrey Ink's Turning a New Leaf set and Hero Arts French Script for the background stamping...you'll need to look closely!)  I finished it off with the sentiment and some Hero Arts Hero Hues gems.  I love them...need to use them more often!

Here's wishing the best husband a girl could ask for a fabulous 46th birthday and many, many, more!  I love you Pat!

Happy Birthday Pat!

Today is my hubby's 44th birthday.  He is constantly giving me a hard time as I'm always saying that he is older than he actually is.  I just remind him that no matter what his age he is always older than me!  Collin and I made a cake for him last night.  It's complete with a whole jar of sprinkles and some very gross tasting green icing that says, "Happy Birthday Daddy!" I think my card making skills are much better than my cake decorating skills!  We'll go out for a nice dinner this weekend to celebrate (tonight is busy with religious ed and baseball practice!)  He is such a wonderful husband and my very best friend.  I love him so much.
I made this card for him (along with others that I shared a couple months ago).  This one follows along with the current sketch challenge at Hero Arts using some new Basic Grey papers that match a few of the Hero stamp sets.

The Patio...

More party preparation pictures from this past weekend.

First, let me say...I am one lucky lady!  My husband is extremely talented....he just remodeled our patio.

Prior to a couple of months ago, we had a stamped concrete patio with a hot tub on it.  We sold the hot tub because Pat no longer needed it for his back pain.  When we sold the hot tub, Pat started to cover a portion of the patio.  Just like I love to craft, he loves to draw sketches of rooms, landscaping, etc.  After several drawings...he got started on the patio, covered it and added the stone wall and pillars.

I am in love with our patio! (and he believe it or not...he behaved himself when doing these...being very careful about what he lifted.)

First up...a view from the backyard.  Inside there is a ceiling fan and a beadboard ceiling.
Here are a few views under the covered portion of our patio.

Looking into the back yard.
From our back door...a tv to catch some sports games!
From the side yard...Ryan relaxing...watching the game and texting...
And our fire pit...currently filled with flowers!
Of course...need some cool beverages too!!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Happy Anniversary to Us...Today we're celebrating being married for 18 years!
I can't imagine having a better best friend and partner for life...I love Pat more than words can say.

I have a funny story too about how things have changed over the last eighteen or more years.  A couple of weeks ago I was sitting at the computer and Pat said, "You smell nice.  What are you wearing?"  It should be noted I hadn't showered and was getting ready for a run.  "I just put on some aloe lotion."  Pat's response, "Smells good.  Remember when you used to wear perfume for me?"  We both most have laughed for about ten minutes....it's not that I don't try to look nice for him...but it was pretty funny.

Eighteen years ago...I wore this...AnaisAnais perfume...How many of you wore this perfume in the 80s?

Today....I wear this...a little more practical :)!

For a comparison of how we looked 18 years ago...check out this post!

Here is my card for Pat following along with the Clean & Simple Challenge for this week...love the background Little Yellow Bicycle Paper with Love and Heart written on it!

Why It Works

Pat and I have been laughing lately realizing that we have been together for almost 25 years…yes…we really did start dating when I was 15 and married when I was 21…and we will celebrate 18 years of marriage in August.

So why does it work? Bottom line…we work at it.

We laugh….like last week when I tried on a new outfit….Pat’s feedback: “Love the pants, not sure about the top…don’t like the ruffles.” And later that night, “You really didn’t like the shirt?” “I’d go so far as to say I hate it.” Starts laughing and then says, “How’s that? I decided after 25 years if I can’t tell you what I really think about your clothes then there’s a problem.” Of course, I did still call my mom for her opinion the next day…she was an immediate no. And most of all, we laugh at all the things the boys do. There are many days when one parent is disciplining and the other one is walking out of the room laughing because we can’t really believe what one of our little guys did…and a little later we’re laughing together about it.

We love…and we talk about our love. Our marriages ebbs and flows….there are times when we don’t pay enough attention to each other. Case in point: four years ago we were in Hilton Head with our family, my mom and Pat’s parents. Our parents watched the boys while we went out to dinner. On our walk back to our house, Pat said, “We need to talk.” I wasn’t paying attention to our love for each other…and Pat called me on it. I needed the reality check. I remember thinking, “Nice timing…we’re on vacation with our parents.” Reality: I needed to hear it…stop being selfish…we’re a partnership and I need a partner. Life is better when we’re open and honest with each other. Pat is also a letter writer…his letters are one of his most precious gifts to me. So in the hustle and bustle of raising four boys and working full time…we try to get time for just us (and wow is it nice now to not have to pay for a babysitter….benefits of having a teenager!)

We appreciate each other’s little quirks…A story Pat loves to tell is that the thing he was most surprised about after we got married is that I’m absentminded. I will “put things away” (which sometimes means lost or actually thrown away” because I can’t stand clutter. When he’s looking for something I’ve “put away”, he asks differently, “Do you know where it is? Can you tell me the three places you could have put it?” Like last week before I left for work, “Do you know where the cards are with the boys classrooms for Vacation Bible School?” I go downstairs to look, come back up stairs, “Pretty sure I threw them away…do you mind getting there a few minutes early to check on their rooms?” He starts cracking up…”Yep..not a problem.” Those types of conversations didn’t always go so well! Pat’s quirk is that he loves, loves, loves to exaggerate…so I sit back, relax, have a nice laugh and enjoy his exaggeration! I could fill an entire years worth of blog entries with the stories he tells us!

We know what makes the other tick….When I am most stressed, he knows how to help me relax…”Want to go for a walk with Karen or Katie tonight?” “Why don’t you go take a bath?” “Why don’t you head to your craft room for a while?” He knows when I am most stressed and when I need a little “me” break. And he…is happiest when he’s creating…drawing pictures of a room in our house he wants to redo. It’s a good night when he’s sitting in the family room with a ruler and some graph paper and a pencil behind his ear (and as the years have gone on…reading glasses tilted on his nose.) And he is so happy coaching the boys in whatever sport is in season. He does a ton of volunteer work for Little League. I’ll get comments, “Doesn’t it drive you crazy how much time he spends on baseball?” My response, “Not really. He’s so happy when he’s coaching. He loves making the connection with the boys.”

We worry together…We worry about the boys. Are we loving, teaching and protecting them enough as they grow up? We worry about our family and friends who are sick or have lost a close family member. We worry about each other. We talk and we share our worries with each other and the boys….hoping to have grace with whatever challenge may come our way. Making sure at a minimum we start and end each day with an I Love You…and smiling our biggest when one of the boys says I Love You in the middle of the day for no particular reason.

So..that is why I think “it” works….it’s not all sunshine…but at the end of each day…there is definitely so much good that “it” is really great.

The card above is for Julie and Rob…may “it” work for you too! Wishing you many years of happiness together.

P.S. Playing along with JUGS for their color challenge this week and with the current CARDS challenge too!

Happy Birthday Pat!

Today is my hubby's 43rd birthday.  We've been dating/married since he was 18 and I was 15...  Each year is better and this year is especially good for Pat.  After three back surgeries, Pat is feeling better than he has in years.   Can you see the sparkle in his eye?!

We'll celebrate together tonight with some cake (and lots of sprinkles compliments of the little boys).

Happy Birthday to an amazing husband, father and best friend.  I love you honey!

Thanks to Keesh for the inspiration for Pat's birthday card.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Normally, we hear this phrase around Christmas time...but this week, Pat was saying it on Tuesday...

When I got home from work on Tuesday he proclaimed, "I haven't showered all day as I didn't want to miss the UPS man."  Sounds like something I would say waiting for a box full of new stamping supplies!

At about 6 pm, the UPS man arrived (much later than normal as we had snow on Tuesday...).  Of course, I had to grab the camera which Pat didn't really appreciate but the UPS man seemed to get a kick out off.  His beloved new guitar arrived.
Let the unpacking begin as we oohed and aah over the much nicer guitar case and the tuner built into the guitar.
Giving the guitar a quick test ride in the family room with Collin thinking, "How can I get my hands on that?"
Then he moved off to our "music room" formally known as our dining room. Our "music room" is quietly being taken over by sheet music....guitar cases and amplifiers!
"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year."  So happy that Pat has a hobby that makes him so happy!

I Love You So Much

My husband is simply the best.   We've been married for 17 years now and dated for 6 together...so the majority of my life...

He takes care of me.  Friday night, I was coming home from work a late. I get home and his words to me are, "Your spa is waiting for you."  I go upstairs to our bedroom...hot bubble bath, candles, a glass of wine (and a glass of ice water...because he knows most of the time I'll prefer the water), cheese and crackers and my People magazine :).  The boys were all down in the basement too...so no little people trying to run in and out as I catch some down time.

This is just one example of why I love this man so much.  Not just because he cares and loves me...he is an amazing father and friend too.  I am so very blessed.

I used the Mojo Monday sketch for this card and it also fits with Lucy's monochromatic challenge too!

Baseball Season is Under Way...

...well maybe not just yet but if you came into my house this week you would certainly think it was!  Pat coaches Ryan's team and is also in charge of equipment and uniforms for the entire league.  I think he said there are 70 teams...thus the state of our family room this week!

Hats of just about every major league baseball team....fun times trying to keep our boys from taking one of each!

Lots and lots of socks in all different colors...

A finished bag of uniforms (pants, shirts, socks and hats)...labeled and ready to go to the coach of the 7/8 year old Cincinnati Reds team!

Several teams (bags) done...and more to come...

One volunteer...taking a little break...

...more uniforms to package...and then he moves on to bats, balls, plates, catcher's gear and much more...

...the moral of the story...if you know who the equipment director is for your children's league...make sure you thank them!  It is a big and often thankless job!

Pat's Debut!

This weekend our dear friends, Ed and Julie, had several families over for Caroling with Kevin. Kevin is a friend of ours from high school.  It was a fabulous and very relaxing night out for our whole family.  Kevin invited anyone who was interested to borrow his guitar and sing too.  Pat is a self taught guitar player.  It is a hobby he has taken up over the last few years since he has been home with the boys.  He plays and sings all the time at home, but has never done it out in public.  My brother and several of his friends have been encouraging him to play in public....so Saturday night was his night!  Ryan got him up there when he said, "Dad, if you play, I won't bug you about getting a cell phone until I'm in the ninth grade."  We all told Ryan that was a bad deal (he'd have to wait three years), but that was all the encouragement Pat needed.

Pat did fantastic...and even went up a second time and sang three more songs!  Needless to say, he's not going to hold Ryan to the bet!

The children participated too!  This sweety is Madison, she sang Rock a Bye Sweet Baby James...her daddy sings this to her every night....  Michael, Julie and Ed's son, played Rudolph and was fabulous!  As soon as he was done, he ran out of the room....playing was a little more of a priority!

Our host and hostess, Ed and Julie...we're so excited for them.  They are expecting a little one in June!

Kevin Fox, himself, keeping us entertained all night!

And three of my favorite men, Patrick, Ryan and my brother, Mark!

Monday Nights

Monday nights during the fall are poker nights at our house.  Pat has the guys over from the neighborhood for Texas Hold 'Em during the Monday Night Football games.  Most of them are in the neighborhood fantasy football...or enjoy getting out of the house for a few hours each week for some guy time.  They were good sports this week letting me take a few pictures.  They all make me laugh when they come to the front door.  They've learned just to walk in so that they don't wake up any of the boys and most of the time take off their shoes at the front door...their wives would be so proud!

Quite often when they come over I'm working in my crafting room for a few minutes before they get started playing. Several of them will pop their head in and want to see what I'm making...it's actually pretty funny.  Maybe I'll need to start asking them if they want me to make cards for their wives?!?!!
