Monster Birthday

I've been trying to pick up boy paper when I hit the scrapbook store.  I thought this monster paper was adorable and fun to play around with for some boy birthday cards.

I used Mercy's sketch layout for the card and so fun SRM stickers for the Caardvark's challenge!

I decided to paper pierce the little monsters and pop them up with some dimensionals to give the card a little more interest!

Happy Friday everyone!

The Great Craft Room Clean Up

My title today has nothing to do with my cards...I think today is the day I'm going to purge some supplies I don't use often from my scrapbook room.  We only have one basketball game this morning versus the normal two....so we'll pretty much have a free day until we head out to a baseball fundraiser tonight.  I'll have to balance Collin coming in the room a lot as I purge...but I know I'll feel better when I'm done!  I'm sure I'll also find some things I haven't used in a while too!

On to my cards...I have two cards to share today both with a male theme!  I need to keep building my male stash since I'm surrounded by boys!

First for the Mojo Monday sketch...

Have a great Saturday!

Learn from Yesterday, Live for Today, Hope for Tomorrow

Jake, who I wrote about last week, received the news yesterday that he and his parents did not want to hear.  After his surgery last Friday, the doctors confirmed that his neuroblastoma has returned and he will start chemotherapy in the next week or so.   Pat very rarely asks me to make a card but wanted one for JD, Jake's dad.  Pat's request, "Please don't make it sad...I want to send him a message of strength and hope."  I thought this message was very appropriate.  Please continue to send prayers to Jake and his family.

Hope you enjoy the card. Thanks to Mercy for the sketch inspiration.

Happy Birthday Madeleine!

It's my niece Madeleine's 17th birthday tomorrow.   How in the world she is already 17 is beyond me!  She is an amazingly talented junior in high school.  I wanted to make her a vintagey looking card as she is very artistic.  My new Stampin' Up sets from Sandy were perfect!

This card is inspired by Mercy's sketch.  Look closely at the button on here.  Madeleine will love it.  My nana sent me a whole bunch of vintage buttons!  This button is a very pretty crystal button.

Hope you enjoy the card!  Happy Birthday Madeleine!

Stitching...

Collin has been dying and I mean dying to try the sewing machine...every time he is in the craft room...he says, "I wish I could use that...how does that work?"  I decided to stitch a little bit on this card and he was in heaven pushing down the peddle and changing the stitch on the machine!

I used by new large Martha Stewart border punch.  Love the big double punch - this was from my gift exchange with my card club ladies - thanks Denise!

Hope you enjoy the card!

Bride & Groom

We just found out that Pat's cousin, Julie, got engaged this weekend!  We're so excited for her and her fiancee, Rob.  We haven't met Rob yet as they live in the DC area but we're looking forward to meeting him this summer at Pat's family reunion and of course on their big day!

Congratulations to Julie and Rob!

Thanks also to Mercy for the sketch inspiration!  I'll be back later in the week with Christmas photos!

Delight in Life

I think I figured out my light box...and my camera.  My camera has all these settings and I rarely use many of them.  That said, I adore my camera!  It takes great pictures of the boys when they are running around at home or at sporting events.   Well, I had to sit on the internet and read the manual to figure out how to take a picture using the light box and not have the picture look yellow.  Took some patience on my part so I kind of chuckled at the sentiment on this card...Delight in Life.  I was a bit irritated tonight!  But hey...now that the pictures look white instead of yellow, I'm a happy girl!

Hope you enjoy the card.  Thanks to Mercy for the sketch inspiration!

Special Thank You

I wanted to make a special thank you for my mum's friend, Barb, who was the main organizer of her shower earlier this week.  I loved the flower from this post, so I decided to try another one using some different paper.  I love the dimension these flowers give to the cards!

Lynn is so very happy...with appreciation!

Lynn is so very happy.

This was my Facebook status earlier this week…I don’t speak in the third person, I think that’s obnoxious! But…I did want to write about why that was my status. My running friend, Katie, commented on my status, “Care to share…could use some happy mojo rub off on me!” My response, “Just thinking when I put it all together …family, friends, work…life is very good…lot to be thankful for so feeling very happy!”

I posted my status as I was sitting in traffic (no the car wasn’t moving as I was looking at my cell phone). My thoughts were along these lines:

I started by thinking about a conversation I had with Jonathon. He asked me, “Mommy, who is your best friend?” “Your daddy.” “No mommy, you’re married to him…besides daddy, who is your best friend?” I certainly am very blessed to have wonderful friends and family and would count many of my family members including my husband and mom as my best friends. How lucky am I? I explained to Jonathon about how very lucky I feel to be best friends with his dad and have several other friends I would consider "my best."

I then moved on to why I was happy. My beloved dad passed away almost five years ago and our dear, dear neighbor Bill passed away just over a year ago. We miss both of them terribly. Why am I still feeling so happy? I’m happy because I have no doubt in my mind that my dad and Bill knew how much they were loved. I think those close to me know how much I love and care about them. I try to be honest with others even during tough times and to let them know how much I love and appreciate them. Even though there will be tough times and I will lose those I care about, they know how I feel about them and I think I know how they feel about me! Ryan said to me a couple of months ago, “Mom, you tell me you love me like 24/7.” Biggest compliment I could ever have received from him… I’ll keep telling him “24/7” how much I love him.

This doesn’t mean that life is perfect…or that I don’t have fears in the pit of my stomach about losing others in my life…or having some type of challenge put in front of me, but life is so very good and I’m so very happy!

So onto my card...With Appreciation!  I thought this would be perfect to send to one of my wonderful friends!  Thanks to Mercy for the sketch inspiration!

With Sympathy

A business friend of mine lost his wife this week to early on-set Alzheimer's. She was in her early 50s. An absolutely horrible disease. Although I never met Doug's wife, I remember when he emailed us (I was on his non-profit company's board) to tell us Teri-Ann had been diagnosed. I sat in my hotel room in Seattle trying to read on the Internet what early on-set Alzheimer's was. I had no idea that there was a form of Alzheimer's that is genetic and is very aggressive for younger people. It has been just over three years since Teri-Ann had been diagnosed. My thoughts and prayers have been with Dough and his family for many months and will continue. May Teri-Ann rest in peace.

Below is a simple masculine sympathy card for Doug. Thanks to Mercy for the sketch inspiration.

Happy Birthday Shelby!

It is my sweet little niece Shelby's third birthday in two weeks! So time to make her a card. I thought she'd like these bright colors on the card. We'll be celebrating three birthdays together...Shelby, Will and Marcel. Will's card will be coming up soon!

Hope you enjoy! I leave you with a picture of the card and a few of my favorite pics of Little Miss Shelby from this spring!

Thanks to Mercy for the sketch!

Two for One - Thank Yous!

I decided to do two challenges at once...Mercy's Sketch Challenge and Dawn McVey's Raspberry Suite Color Challenge. I did the first card for Dawn's challenge and then I thought I should modify it for Mercy's sketch. I don't think these pictures due the cards justice! I'm much happier with them "in person"! Does that make sense?

When I saw Dawn's colors, I pulled out some new chip board buttons from Jenni Bowlin. They were the perfect colors for her color challenge.

Hope you enjoy the cards! Kind of hard to see the flourish and sentiment on the first one!

Happy Birthday Times 3!

October is a big birthday month for our family! Marcel's birthday is this month and we have two nieces, a nephew and my mother-in-law's birthday!

Thankfully, this year, Marcel is celebrating with his two cousins: Shelby and Will. We're having a party at the patch...the pumpkin patch! Below are the invitations for the big day! Easy peasy for my sister-in-laws and me...no set up or clean up necessary! The invitations are meant to be the three little ones. Will on the left (loves baseball!). Shelby in the middle (loves anything princesses - can you tell that is a wand?!) Marcel on the right (he loves cars...but I didn't have one, so he gets a pumpkin!)

Many thanks to Rhonda, my SU demonstrator, for letting me borrow her stamp set. She is so good to me...I call her all the time, "Can I borrow this?..." Thanks also to Mercy for the inspiration for the layout to the card. This card has a lot of coloring too. I don't normally color too often, but have been thinking about Copic markers. Need to do some research on them before making the investment!

Thanks So Much

I'm starting to think about the holidays...yes, crazy I know! Pretty soon I'll have a post of the assembly line of supplies for my Christmas cards...started cutting the paper last night!

I'm also starting on my teacher gifts! I like to make each teacher a set of cards as a thank you. All of the teachers seem to appreciate this gift. This year I have 8 teachers between the four boys! This thank you card will be one I'll put in the teacher gifts!

Thanks to Mercy for the sketch layout!

Sending a Smile Across the Miles

My dear cousin, Sandie, has been suffering from very serious health problems related to Epilepsy. Unfortunately, she lives in England so we don't get to see one another very often. I wanted to send her a note so that she knows we are all praying for her.

Thanks to Mercy for the sketch inspiration.

Boo!

It's hard to believe that it is already September and before we know it Halloween will be here! I've been cruising around blog world and got some inspiration for this card below. I tried it two different ways - one with a little bit larger piece of orange paper and then a smaller piece where the circles are about half way off the paper. I think I like the second version better!

Thanks to Mercy for the inspiration!

Mercy's Challenge

I had a lot of fun with this sketch. I never turn sentiments (I'm a 90 degree angle girl!) and I love the way this looks. It is getting hotter outside so it doesn't feel like fall yet, but the fall colors are so pretty. I made this card to go along with a set of monogrammed notecards for my co-workers who did a tremendous amount of work on a conference we had this week. Hope they enjoy! Thanks to Mercy for this inspiration - this is almost an exact replica of her card!

Mercy's Challenge

Hello - I am absolutely loving the sketch challenges! I created two different cards for Mercy's challenge. I think I like the monochromatic card the best so I'll show it first. I find having cards without a sentiment on them are nice to have in my stash! I'm going to have to make a few more of them! The second card is for our Uncle Chris. He had a bicycle accident and thankfully was wearing a helmet, but the doctors are not sure if his injuries are due to a stroke or the accident. We are certainly sending cards and many prayers his way.
