Ah-Mazing

Hey there, hi there, ho there...I hope you are all having a great week. This is my last card for the Clean & Simple class was inspired by Julie Ebersole's video on Friday.  I made this for my co-worker who played a huge role in our new headquarters. Our associates are moving in this week and next and let me tell you...the new office is incredible.  I'm so excited and thankful.  I move in over the weekend.  A card doesn't seem like enough of a thanks, but it truly is amazing and she deserves a great big thank you.

Happy Wednesday friends.

You Are In My Prayers - Olivia! - {and an adhesive question}

Oh I had an awesome weekend...lots of relaxation...including my college roommate visiting, going to see our newly built headquarters for work and my alma mater making it to the Sweet 16 for March Madness.  An all around great weekend!  The weekend ended with me getting some inky time in as well. This card features the technique Jennifer McGuire showed us on Friday.  I stamped the geometric background in white on the card base and then stamped over it creating the touch of texture on the large PaperSmooches blooms.  Love this effect.  I have to tell on myself too...I knew the class I was taking was a clean and simple class but didn't realize it was a one layer CAS class.  I love one layer cards, but wasn't really keeping them one layer when I played along with the techniques...woops...good thing I'm not submitting these for a grade as I wouldn't do well on the attention to detail!  No worries though..I've loved the class!

Now...all of you know you how proud I am of my boys and my nieces and nephews.  My niece, Olivia, sang in front of her entire sixth grade class on Friday (over 350 people!).  She is so talented!   I couldn't make it, but thankfully my sister-in-law sent the video.  Click here to see how amazing she sounds!

Okay:  quick question, with Archiver's closing I don't have a quick stop to go by adhesive. Today I used Scrapbook Adhesives for my tape runners.  What do you use? What do you love for your adhesives?  I'd love to hear your opinions as I will likely order on-line now.

I hope your week gets off to a great start!

Dream Big

Oh happy inky time! I had some craft time on Monday night to catch up on the videos from the Clean & Simple class.  My first card features the graffiti stamping.  When I saw the card from Friday, I immediately thought of a graduation card.  I love the combination of stamps from WPlus9 and The Craft's Meow.  I think they go together really well. The black and orange are our school colors so this will go to someone local!

The second card is from yesterday's video and features the technique of coloring on vellum.  I've never done this before either.  I don't have Copics so I used some very well loved SU markers to make this card. This will be perfect to stash away for mother's day!  I hope your week is off to a great start and that  you are getting lots of inky time!

Thanks a Bunch

Hi there...it's going to be a busy 24 hours on my blog...I'm popping in to share a couple more cards for the current Clean & Simple class...and I'll be back shortly to share a card for the first Time Out Challenge and then one for the next Fusion challenge.

But before I get to my next two posts, let's chat about this post!  I took Laura Bassen's inspiration from today's class and did some layered stamping.  I love, love, love stamping. For my first card I covered the entire card base.  I rarely do this and have just a few background stamps that cover the whole card.  I also took Jennifer's tip of inking up the edges of the leaf stamps.  Love the extra bit of depth that gives the leaves. Here's hoping I remember that tip!

My second card I used the PTI Grunge Me set...I haven't used that in a really long time.  I love the combination of a feminine and masculine card with the same techniques!  Happy stamping my friends.

You Are Appreciated

Hello there, I'm back with another card for the current Clean & Simple class. I love this faux effect where you stamp in color and then stamp in white over top of the color.  Very clean & crisp.  One of the tips in the class is to make sure you have a very juicy white ink pad.  Mine isn't too juicy but I love the end result.  This card is thinking Spring and we've had sunshine here for a few days....the snow is supposed to come back tonight.  I'm still thinking Spring!

It's concert week at our house this week.  Jonathon's choir Monday night, Collin's class last night and jazz band/Jonathon's show choir this week.  Needless to say, I'm not doing a great job keeping schedules straight!  Here's Collin hanging from the monkey bars after his show...and with his teacher Mrs. Carter.  He adores her!

You're My Lucky Charm

Happy Friday everyone!  I'm looking forward to the weekend.  Pat and I are going to see Billy Elliot tomorrow night with Ryan and Jonathon. I'm really looking forward to a night out nestled in between running the boys to a variety of activities.
But enough about the weekend plans.  I received my Verve order yesterday and decided to use my new stamps to continue to play along with the techniques from the class.  Our most recent class was about using our stamps in different ways.  One of the cards had a great background stamped panel similar to the green panel below.  I kept this one ultra simple.

The next one showcases uses the stamps in a different way with the coordinating dies.  Hope you like them both!  I'm obviously still using the plain white cards too. Good thing you can't see the backs of them as I'm having problems with inky fingers!

Love You Forever

Seven years ago today, my dad passed away. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him but I think of him with a smile in my heart.  The last few days, I've been thinking about the things he taught us.  And even more, the lessons he taught us that we didn't even realize until he was gone.  Most importantly, he taught us to not stop loving.  To lean on one another.  He taught us to be strong and faithful.  This lesson of strength was one we may not have realized he taught us but was quickly demonstrated by my oldest brother, Neal.  Neal said my dad's eulogy.  His eulogy captured who our dad was.  He captured his love of my mum, my brothers and me, his dear friends, co-workers...and his love of life.  His honesty, integrity and his resounding laugh.  I was so proud of Neal and I know my dad was too. His strength and love for my dad showed through his amazing eulogy.

Today, this card could be sent to my dad. He knows I love him forever, but it will go to my mum.  Not only for my love for her, but my dad's and our entire family.

The techniques on this card were inspired by Friday's class and Julie's extra video on Sunday.  I didn't have the right color ink so I used Julie's technique of first inking the stamp with Versamark and then applying the regular color.  Before inking it to the white panel, I sprayed Perfect Pearls and then heat embossed it.   {the sentiment was stamped first.}

One Stamp Three Ways

Happy Friday everyone! I am absolutely loving the Clean & Simple Card Making class.  Yesterday's class was about using a single stamp multiple ways.  It definitely helps stretch your stamps.  I purchased the PTI Tree Toppers set last month and I think I've only inked it up once.  So...I decided to use the circles from one of the tree tops.  This first card shows using the stamp in a very traditional way as the tree leaves.  I pulled out the linen impression plate again and inked up the edges for a little more depth.  In real life the tree colors are a bit darker than the photo shows.
I then used the same stamp as a background.  I paired it up with two other PTI sets.  I think this card will go to my niece, Madeleine, who turns 19 (how did that happen?!) tomorrow.

Finally, I used the stamp again as a background but tried to create stripes. The sentiment is from Verve.
Like I said earlier, I am really enjoying this class! Look for more samples to come!  And...I'd love to hear which one you like best and why :)!

Happy Friday!

Just because.

Hi there...I'm back again to show two more cards from the class.  The one below is from day 3 and it ranks as my favorite of the four I've made for class so far.  Jennifer McGuire showed us a technique to use our dies to create tone on tone dimension on a card.  She used very intricate dies, but this butterfly is the most intricate die I have with the exception of a snowflake!  I normally stay away from the really detailed dies because I'm not patient enough to pick out all the little pieces!  If you look closely you'll see the dimension and that the butterfly layers are white underneath.  To add a bit more texture to the card I embossed the top panel with the PTI Linen Impression Plate.  I think stamped a Verve sentiment.  I could see making a card set with this layout.
And my second card is for Day 2.  Making a one layer card.  This also could easily be a card set and is very similar to what I made for teacher gifts!
Hope you like them both!

Ever So Grateful

Week 2 of me playing along with the ColourQ Challenges and this week is an extra fun week!  ColourQ has teamed up with the Clean & Simple sketch challenge!  The challenge was to use the sketch along with any of the previous ColourQ color swatches.  At first, I was on the hunt for a Christmas color swatch to make a couple more Christmas cards.  But...I didn't quite make it that far.  I saw Cherry Cobbler as one of the colors on this swatch and stopped right there!  So...I ended up making a card with gorgeous fall colors inspired by the wonderful ColourQ colors.

Hope you all get a chance to play along too!  Happy Friday!

Wedding Wishes

A double challenge...on two challenges that I adore...CAS-ual Fridays and Clean & Simple.  Yummy...and perfect for a wedding card for one of my co-workers.  I broke open my PTI Damask Designs paper that I've had for almost a month now (what is that about that it took me this long?!) and made a crisp wedding card for a co-worker using some SEI flowers and a Verve sentiment.  Ah...love the colors...

PS Don't forget about my blog candy here...

Laura's Confirmation (and a very quick card!)

Hi there...we're back from our whirlwind trip to Pittsburgh to celebrate our niece's confirmation.  The boys were thrilled to get to see the "Pittsburgh" Mangans.  They also started their Spring Break on Friday.  Ryan burned two CDs of music for the car ride and labeled them "Pittsburgh Spring Break." Pat and I had a giggle that one night away from home qualified as a spring break vacation!   Here are a few pictures of Laura on her special day...

Laura with her very proud parents!
Laura with Pat's sister and Laura's Godmother, Molly.
And one with Nana and PopPop!
It would have been great to get one of all the cousins (11 in all attended), but the mass was 2 hours long!  We got there a half hour early so the children all sat for 2.5 hours...they did really well so we weren't going to try and get them all lined up for a photo shoot. It was a wonderful service despite the length1   I'll share some hilarious bowling and Wii Just Dance II pictures later in the week!

When we got back, I made a very quick anniversary card for a co-worker...quick and clean...love the bright colors.  The layout was inspired by the Clean and Simple Sketch this week.
Ingredients:  PTI Larger than Life Daily Design Sentiments: Stampin' Up Basic Black, Tempting Turquoise and Old Olive Ink

You Float My Boat

Isn't this little boat adorable? I won the CPS challenge a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to get a gift certificate to Clean & Simple stamps.  I decided to make sure I picked out stamps that were different than anything I already had.  So, I picked out this set with the sweet little boat and also one for graduation.  I have zero graduation stamps!
For the waves, I used some Core'dinations cardstock and a Tim Holtz Sizzix die.  Love how they are uneven like real waves.  The layout is inspired by this week's Clean & Simple sketch too.  It's been way too long since I've played along with one of their challenges!

I also wanted to share a couple of pictures of Madeleine showing off her ring from her birthday and yesterday's card!
And another picture with me and the birthday girl...since I am normally behind the camera!

College Memories

Good morning...I'm off to shop til I drop today with three of my college roommates from my sophomore year in college.  We get together once a year to catch up.  I'm very blessed that these three ladies are very dear friends...and although we don't connect enough in between shopping trips we certainly always pick up where we left off.  Do you have those friends that you don't talk to that often, but whenever you do...you connect as if you just talked yesterday?  Sandy lives close so thankfully we get together more often (but not often enough) and Kelly and Colleen live about 3.5 hours away.  Very dear friends and I'm looking forward to our day out today.  I thought I'd take you on a time warp back to 1989/90 and share a few photos!

The first photo is after a St. Patrick's Day bash when the Dayton Flyers had made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.  Needless to say...it was a great party!  Pat (yes the same Pat that is my husband) told his roommate he would buy him a keg of beer if he got all of us covered in mud.  He succeded quickly and it was a very rainy night!  Our shower was disgusting!  The old house that we rented had one bathroom for six girls!
Here we are getting ready for homecoming.  Do you like all the permed hair and the white hose?  We're looking very good!  I don't think I actually went to the dance because I was in a sorority and we had a lot of dances...but I was there to partake in the pre-party!

I'm taking my camera today to take some current pictures of the UD Alumni group!

And...I actually have a card to share too!  What do you think about this one layer card inspired by this week's Clean & Simple challenge?
Ingredients:  Hero Arts Stamps; PaperTrey Ink Kraft Paper; Stampin' Up Night of Navy, Marina Mist and Baja Blue Ink.

The Masked Boy

Marcel's pre-school class made masks at school yesterday...so from the bus ride home to religion drop off/pick up, dinner out at Skyline Chili and until bath time a little after eight...this was the look.  He loves his mask.  It's too big so his little hand was constantly holding it on for over eight hours.  Cracked us up...you can even see the food stains on it.  Think he is looking forward to Halloween?

Here's some more Christmas inspiration for you...but my new PTI Vintage Ornaments to use again on this week's Clean & Simple sketch.
Ingredients:  PaperTrey Ink Vintage Ornaments and Baker's Twine; Basic Grey Designer Series Paper; Stampin' Up Whisper White and Cherry Cobbler Paper/Ink

Clean & Simple

How much do I love chocolate chip?  Yummy...love the simplicity of this card...yet feel like it is also very elegant.  I took the damask paper scrap and quickly made up this card for the current Clean & Simple challenge.  I love how quick it was to make!

On a completely unrelated note...I'm thinking my husband might ban me from ordering more craft supplies.  I have orders in for Verve and PTI...I also have two prize packages one from Lucy with some fabulous SRM stickers and one from Jean...ooh...can't wait for that mailman to come!  Maybe I'll tell Pat everything was a prize?  Just kidding!  Hope you are all getting some fabulous new crafting supplies!

Dreaming For My Boys...

...do you dream for your children and ever wonder what your children will be when they are adults?  I look at their personalities and even at such young ages I can see very clear differences.  Their distinct and fun personalities make me dream for them.

Ryan loves being part of a team.  He is the boy in the neighborhood calling around to organize whatever sport is in season.  And when he's on the field for his football or baseball team, he is the boy cheering for his teammates.  As part of the team, he is the positive and confident teammate.  Yet...when he is out and about and sees someone he knows he says hi but is a little shy unless he has something specific to say.

Jonathon loves his friends, but has always needed time to himself.  He quite often disappears into his room for "Jon time".  Playing soduko or his GameBoy.  Not for too long, but just enough to have a little quiet.  When he is out and about and sees some he knows he definitely has to go say, "Hi, how are you?"  And then he's ready to go on.  He's my loving, sensitive boy always thinking about others.

Collin loves to be outside.  If he ends up working in an office everyday, I'll be shocked.  He loves creating, loves playing hard...and although he is very mischievous, he can be extremely shy.  If he is out and about and sees someone he knows, he quite often hangs onto my leg.  Much shyer than his two older brothers ever have been.

And then there is Marcel.  He loves to play outside and loves to play by himself with his "Lego guys."  And when he is out and about, he doesn't have a shy bone in his body!  He'll talk to everyone about everything and loves to be the center of it all.

I'm sure their personalities will continue to change as they all grow older, but I think even today, their personalities say a lot about who they'll be when they are older.  I think about what type of job they might like, hope that they don't move to far away...and many other things.  But above all, my dreams for them are to be happy.  I dream of them each having wives that love them as much as Pat and I love each other.  I dream of them having someone to share their happiness with, to share the tough times and to laugh a lot along the way.  I dream of them being men of faith not afraid to show their love for their family and friends and always striving to be better.  I dream of them to having jobs they love and working hard, but not working so hard that they don't have time to play.  I dream of them having families, growing old knowing they have done a great job raising their families.  I dream a lot for them...

And after dreaming :), here is a quick card to today.  I have to say I love the Ranger Antique Linen distress ink...very subtle...and perfect for distressing the edges and a simple background.  This card is for this week's Clean & Simple challenge.
