A New York Minute

Lately, I'm not doing a great job remembering when challenges expire, etc so I have been keeping a note pad right next to our home laptop where I typically go through Feedly each morning.  I'm chotting down challenge themes and the due dates so that when I do have crafty time (typically on the weekens) I know which ones are still current.  So...when I saw the current One Layer Simplicity Challeng:   Road Trip, I knew immediately that I wanted to pull out this little taxi cab from my PTI set.  Perfect easy card for this fun one layer challenge.  What about you, have any organization tips for keeping track of challenges where you want to play along? And...I'm curious, when do you get most of your crafting done? Mornings, evenings, weekends?

  1. I love this CAS card, Lynn! Gorgeous!

As for crafting time - I generally sneak an hour or two on the week-ends. Sometimes I can't help myself and steal some time from my sleep schedule during the week. ;-) I'm forever missing challenge deadlines.

  3. I have no tips for the organization… but be crafty and enjoy it and know that if you decide to send the card to someone they will enjoy it.

  4. Awesome CAS card Lynn!! I am very bad at keeping track of the theme and due date of challenges too. But for a few periodic ones, I add the start day on the book mark. So when I know when the last one is finishing.

  7. Fantastic!! Love the CAS design and love the sentiment. Just perfect for a friend in need! I NEED tips for keeping track of challenges. I tried using a calendar - maybe I should give that another try. My work 'schedule' changes daily, which makes me not have any schedule AT ALL. I have to really push to get any crafting time in. :-(

  8. Love this CAS beauty. I've got that challenge in my radar, too. As for crafting time--almost always during the day while my girls are at school, sometimes in the afternoon if I need to keep one 'company' while she does her homework, and big time on the weekends if I am 'standing guard' with the same daughter while she does more homework (apparently her ADD is the reason I make so many cards). As for organization--I have all my challenges organized by type in my feedly. I will often go through them and just keep a post it at my computer with the challenge topic and the idea that I have for it. I get most of my ideas in spin class, so I usually look at the challenges before I go, think about them at spin, and dash home to jot down my ideas before I forget them. I don't always get to everything, but it helps me remember. Ooh, such a long comment...TMI?

  10. Such a cute card :) Challenge dates are hard to keep straight - if there is one I want to play I write it on the calendar in my craft area so everything is in one place (DT dates etc.) DT dates are highlighted and "optional" ones written in. Crafty time - used to be in the mornings but now that I'm working a lot for hubby's office is in the evenings and weekends.

  11. I think of your niece when I think of NY :) I have a calendar in my studio for DT duties, school, work and personal appointments. I also have my sweet little white board by my computer with the cards I need to make that week and post. My stamping time is low lately :( Weekends are my window of opportunity with a bit a night if I can squeeze it in. Oh, if I'm saving a challenge photo on my computer, I rename it with the date it's due! I like that tip! ox

  12. Perfect CAS card, and love that rounded edge. If I am in the mood to craft it is usually around 5pm ish and I usually will just make one card, it may take 5 mins or 2 hours! And lists and more lists is how I organise. If it isn't on my 'to do' list (prioritised obviously!!), it ain't getting done!

  13. This is Darling, Lynn! That sentiment is so cute with the taxi and Perfect for one layer! And I craft any time I have a minute but many times it is in the middle of the night! YIKES!

  14. Love the card, Lynn. I do my crafting anytime, whenever the inspiration strikes. I seem to do a lot on Thursday and Friday, don't ask me why.

As for challenges, I have a sheet of paper, with a computer generated table on it, listing the challenges I usually enter by day of the week they start. There is space for the theme or sketch and then the day they are due. I print a new one each week. If I hear about a new challenge I write it in the margins. When I no longer enter certain challenges, I take them off the list and add others.

  15. A time machine. I've decided that's the only way I can keep up to date with everything LOL!
Love this one layered card, Lynn! Will this one be heading to your talented niece? :)

  16. Love this cute take on the challenge and I know what you mean about trying to keep track of the challenges and closing dates! I stamp at different times but usually one day on the weekend I tend to do most of my stamping.

  18. Too often I'm crafting late at night .. until early hours like 2 or 3am!. Not good for sleep patterns.
Having just spent 10 days in bed (4 in hospital) with a really bad bronchitis, my clock has been reset and I'm going to try and not craft late. Hoping to have a more simple and sane life.
So I have given myself a new "rule" .... don't even go and look at challenges unless you have the time to create, because I spend way too much time looking and not enough time creating!
I have the same problem with deadlines ... I've tried different systems, but my latest is a one sheet document which gives me the Challenge start and length. I'll post it on my blog to give you an idea. Means I don't have to keep updating it.

  22. Leave it to you, Lynn, to create a great CAS card with the city scene set! There are so many pieces to that set, it seems impossible to use just one or two things, so I'm glad you showed me the light : )

I usually craft between 12-3 when my youngest is in kindergarten. If I'm really behind on things (which has gotten to be the norm more often than not) then I'll craft from 11pm - 2am.

  23. Super fun card! My crafty time depends on work schedules and my energy levels but any time of day will do! :) At the moment I've only been able to craft on weekends. Looking forward to summer vacation! :)

  24. What a fun scene, Lynn ... love that sentiment! We all need a pause button ... that way we could take our time, craft when we like and never miss a challenge deadline! Anita :)

  25. What a beautiful CAS card, Lynn. i really love it!

My usual crafting time is sunday morning. mo-Fr I am working fulltime and saturday is cleaning time, besides the activity of my children ( I am the "taxidriver" to horseback riding and ballroom dancing classes ), so sunday morning is my time. While the kids and hubby are still sleeping I like to get a big cup of coffee and play with some stamps, ink and paper.

Unfortunately I often loose sight to any challenge deadlines so I am happy that the OLS challenge has an easy one: starts every 1st and runs three weeks. That is enough time, mostly :)

Have a great day, thanks for sharing

    Sandra (Sunny)

  26. A perfect little stamp is right, Lynn! And you made a perfect little card with it! I'm so happy it was featured by OLS!! Congratulations!

As for challenges, I put a tab at the top of my blog and do the same thing you do, take a piece of paper on Sundays or Mondays and click through the links and make notes. It takes a bit of time, but overall it gives me a sense of control and an overview to go from there and play in the ones that speak to me, depending on the time constraints I have on my calendar that week, so if I'm limited time-wise, it helps me "pick and choose." It's also amazing to me how many of the challenges seem to "speak of each other" each week and jive! Bonus!

Because I am fortunate enough to be retired, I grab crafting time in between lunches and movies and visiting blog friends. Don't hate me! Your day will come! Hugs, Darnell
