15 years ago we welcomed our beautiful boy, Ryan, into this world weighing in at a big 5 lbs 15 ounces. He was almost three weeks early and early or not, Pat and I entered parenthood not really knowing what we were doing but so thankful for a healthy little boy.
One week into his life I proved I didn’t know what I was doing with nursing and he had lost quite a bit of weight. Our pediatrician assured me through my tears that he would be just fine…told me to nurse and supplement for the next day and within 24 hours he had gained almost a pound. So scary that I really had no clue.
Some days I still am not quite sure I know what I’m doing with parenting, but I watch this beautiful boy grow before my eyes. He is turning into an amazing young man. I was proud his first day of school, when he learned to ride his bike without training wheels, the first time he had a hit in baseball, he pitched , he played catcher and when he comes home with a good report card.
But most of all, I’m proud that he is a genuine loving person. I ask myself all the time, am I fooling myself. Does he really have a good head on his shoulders, but I see it so often that for today I know it’s true. Yes, we have our moments. I may go into crazy mom rage at my teenage boy and he may yell at me too sometimes…but I am so proud of him.
He’s shown me in the last year that he is growing with each day. Learning new things, singing solos at choir concerts, dancing and singing his heart out at show choir and having a great part in the school play. He loves life and has a faith that makes my heart smile. So here’s to you, my beautiful boy. Happy 15th birthday, Ryan. I love you with all my heart.
Here's his birthday card to share...giving a nod to his love of music and playing along with Retro Sketches too.
