A Quiet Saturday Morning

Yesterday morning started off quietly.  I woke Ryan and Jonathon up at 6:20 to head out to the umpire meeting/scheduling at about 6:40.  Dropped them off, picked up McDonald's for them and went home for a bit until they needed to be picked up at 8:15.  As we were driving there, I was thinking in a few short weeks, Ryan will drive them to the umpire meeting on his own.  His 16th birthday is fast approaching.  Some of the best one on one conversations with him are in the car when I'm running him or his friends to an activity.  It will be so strange to have fewer of those moments.  I recognize they aren't big moments, but a lot of little moments that form our relationship.  Then my mind goes to spring time and graduations happening. My niece will head off to college in the fall, soon it with be Ryan, followed quickly by Jonathon and my little guys.  Time is passing, but life is so good.  In the busyness of it all, I'm trying to cherish it too.  Some days I succeed; others I could be better.  Rushing along to get to the next to do.  But yesterday morning, I stopped.  I stopped as I pulled into the driveway before I went pack to pick up Ryan and Jonathon. I love all the spring time blooms, but what I loved was all the the things around my yard amid the blooms of spring.  A basketball sitting in the gorgeous freshly cut grass (a sign of Collin and Jonathon's basketball games next to each other), footballs right by the gorgeous flowers (a sign of Pat/Jonathon practicing throwing), a golf ball in the mulch, an oversize bat from a "battle".  It all made me smile.  Little reminders of our life and our house filled with boys.

After snapping a few pictures, I came inside to this sweet sleepy little boy.  I asked him why was downstairs so early (he's normally my sleepy head).  I gave him a kiss, he smiled, and kept on sleeping.
So...this is my little break...my little reminder to cherish the little everyday things...rather than the hurry up to the next thing!  I'd love to hear what little but oh so important thing in your life that you cherish today.

And if you've made it this far, I have a fun anniversary card to play along with the current Verve Diva Dare.  Happy Sunday my friends.

What a beautiful story, Lynn! I cherish these moments with my girls, too, and I'll remember your story as I drive my big girl to her early morning choir practice tomorrow. :-)

Your card is beautiful, too!

Wonderful, wonderful post Lynn. I love that you see memories in the balls and bats in your yard. It all goes too fast, I agree. Since we can't stop it we just have to make the best of the time we have. We are celebrating my nephew's 4th birthday today. Instead of thinking of it as another family obligation, I will look around and be thankful for each and every family member there.

Wonderful post! Your boys are just a little older than mine and oh your post is so much like our house. I just had my last day of ECFE with my little 3 year old on Friday. Next year he will go to pre-school. I cherish every moment I can and try not to get caught up in the moment too much. I am not looking forward to the boys being able to drive.... My oldest will be 13 in June, so I have a couple years to think about it.... Your flowers are beautiful! Spring has just started here. Hope to see flowers soon! Cute anniversary card too!

To cherish the sweet little ordinary moments in life is the best thing to do. Our boys are outside at the moment: Noah, our youngest is playing hide and seek in the woods with his friend, Jonathan went to the skatepark and Nathaniel is biking (BMX), the sun is shining. What a lovely day!

Thank you for sharing your happy family life with us!

And thank you for the picture of your beautiful handemade card!

Bless you, Lynn!
Have a nice day!

Love all the pictures...I know exactly how you feel...with my girl graduating this June and moving into dorms for the fall...things will be a ton different for me. My boy will be turning 16 this summer and yipes, driving. It's such a wonderful journey though, isn't it? We're going through a baby boom at work and I just don't think the new parents know what they will be going through...such a never ending experience of emotions. Working Moms Unite :)

Your Verve card is wonderful...love the colors and the twine.

Enjoy your Sunday Lynn!

I love this post, Lynn! You know my boys are older - David, my youngest, will graduate this year. It's a mix of emotions. There is excitement for him as he grows into a wonderful young man but also a bit of sadness as he ventures out on his own. *sigh* Some of my favorite moments have come from the conversations I've had in the car with both my boys.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts - the balls strewn around your yard look very familiar - I'll actually miss picking them up!

Your card is so pretty! Those sweet banners are delightful and I love the little, wooden butterflies! :)

Gosh, a little window into your life x
Today, my hubby left his music, rubbing his ears saying he needed to rest his ears! Then switched on Dr Who, I had to giggle, I married a geek!! Your post made me reflect on this little moment and smile some more!!

oh, you are getting me all teary eyed again! It's one moment at a time, isn't it? I quite often get like this standing by our living room windows looking at the hills and think of all the things I have to be grateful for. All those precious times with Jake seem like one big lump of memories that has hopefully contributed to who he will be as a man. I do like to zoom in on some of those and just smile about when he was my baby. I was just going to see if you were entering the Dare this month! We are on the same wave length again! I love the banners and where you placed the sentiment :) LOVE! ox

As many times as I've heard/read the words "life is good" it always hits me that I can't think of a time in my life when I would have said that. You are so fortunate to have such wonderful moments with your boys.

My sweet boy is married Lynn, but I treasure those little moments the two of us still share. Your flowers are so pretty and I love the signs of your boys sprinkled among them. I miss the business of a spring baseball season, enjoy it while you can! You card is super cute, love the colorful banners!

I hear you, my dear. Life moves, and sometimes it moves right along without us. Been spending lots more time outdoors and much fewer minutes in the confines of our home, but I still treasure those moments filled with plain silence, when nothing in particular must be done, and everything is simply still.

And your card is so sweet! LOVE the color palette, and those veneer butterflies are scrumptious!

Your words bring tears to my eyes. We are not exactly in the same place, but I have had to do some "letting go" myself as my boys ride their bikes to the park or a friend house. They run in from school and right out the door. Capturing the little moments is so important.

I love your card too, those little butterflies are adorable!

Such a thoughtful piece of writing Lynn, we spend so much time as our youngsters grow up rushing around helping and looking after them so perhaps as they move onto adulthood it is a natural time for reflection, pride and thankfulness.
Love your cheery card, the coloured banners really have that zing!!

Hi Lynn... everything you wrote here is so true!
With one daughter out of the nest already, and one left with only a year to go, I also want to turn back time! In a year's time, it will be only hubby and I.
Love to read your posts, and love your cards... each and everyone !
